Internally Geared Hubs [ABR Home Page]

An internally geared hub with drum brake replaces many parts.

Bikes we have built with internal gears.

We stock most internally geared hubs made, and some no longer made! If you can't find it at your LBS, then email us.
We service nearly all internally geared hubs.
We stock parts for Shimano, Sturmey Archer, Sram/Sachs, Rohloff and many others (Bendix, New Departure, etc.).

Internal Gear Hub Service

If your LBS won't work on your hub, then we will.
First, send an email to aaron@rideyourbike.com with pictures of your rear wheel (both sides, preferably on the bike).
Include the make, model, date (if known), etc.
We will get back to you with a yes or no answer as to if we can service your hub.

We charge a flat fee of $175 which includes: most small parts, shipping, tax and labor to service a hub. Rohloff hubs are $200.
We accept Paypal, Visa, MC, Discover or check or money order (include in the box when you ship us your wheel).
Please do not send us just the hub as many require the hub to be held by the spokes in a wheel to service and adjust. If you do not have your hub built into a wheel contact us first.

We also service Schlump Drives!

DO NOT SEND YOUR HUB OR WHEEL WITHOUT EMAILING FIRST!

Sturmy Archer 70mm X-FDD Dynamo Drum Hub
Note: Bicycle generator hubs produce AC current. Dynamos produce DC current.
Dynamo is a misnomer. They are actually alternators.

In this picture, a spacer is broken and the wire is severed.

The SRAM hub is rim and ISO 6-bolt disc compatable.
If you use it with a rim brake, make sure you install the fancy dust cap as the disc rotor bolt holes go all the way through!
A benefit of this design is that the hub internals can easily be oiled with Phil Wood oil by removing one bolt!
Either way, it is probably best to use six M5 "water bottle" bolts.

The Sturmey-Archer ASC Fixed-Gear Three-Speed Hub
Sean purchased this on ebay for around $500 and is using in on the streets of Seattle.

After about 700 miles the aluminum hub shell failed but the internals were fine.
The hub and wheel were rebuilt with a 40 hole steel hub shell. The guts are the same!

We are a service center for Rohloff hubs!

We can drill your Rohloff hubshell for 48 spokes. (please note this will void your warranty, but a new hubshell is only around $200 if it should ever crack. However, the only Rohloffs that we have ever heard of cracking, are from tandems. 32 spokes may be strong enough, but the durablility is just not there for heavy loads. The guts of the hub, however, are plenty strong!)
